There is no need to tell what NOKIA is as everyone knows that it is one of the best and reliable mobile manufacturers. One of the recent Smartphones (Except Lumia Series) that NOKIA is currently producing is one of the best sellers in India- " Asha Smartphone series ", after this success they have extended Asha list with another Smartphone under the same heading which is said to be a lot more sleeky in a very low price. Let's see if it can come up the expectations of everyone.
Design-
In this modern age Smartphones are becoming bigger and bigger some even have a 6 inch and the user have to take precautions to handle them safely I mean these smartphones are not for use but for style but Nokia has made it's new Asha 501 Smartphone for real work as it is very compact with the dimension of 99.2X58X12.1 mm only. The phone feels very light when you hold it actually it weighs only 91 grams .
The Design of this new comer is kept the same as of the lumia series making it look very cute and sleeky. At the front a 3 inch screen and a back button occupies the whole space and at the back there is the battery compartment in which the battery, the Micro-SD cards and 2 Micro-Sim cards are placed. The Back panel is exchangeable i.e. you can choose a different colored panel if you get bored with the old one. The Second Micro-Sim and the Micro-SD cards can be removed without switching of the phone. You also get the 3.2 Mega Pixels camera at the back and at the top you get a USB port, a 3.5 mm audio port and a 2.5 mm charging port .
Overall the design is very nice and looking at the price of this the design rocks.
First look (Visuals)
Hey guys Please don't only watch the video but also read the review too....
The Nokia Asha 501 comes with a 3 inch touch display screen. the 3 inch captive display screen comes with a 240X320 pixels Resolution and 133 PPI pixel density. This 3 inch screen also has brightness control, RGB Stripe and double tap wake up gesture. The touch response is good but still sometimes a bit of lag may be experienced. The screen has good viewing angles and is readable in sun , this also has a proximity sensor.
Software-
The new Nokia Asha 501 runs on a new platform named " Nokia Asha software platform 1.0" the previous Asha Phones used to run on S40(Symbian) . However The UI(user interface) of Nokia Asha 501 is same as the other Asha Smartphones but it is much more easier to use and is largely dominated by gestures like swiping.
The Fastlane feature of the new Asha 501 is one of the new installments made by Nokia for more user convenience , this shows all the apps that the user had used recently used like the " recent activity bar " that you get in your pc and obviously in the web browsers. The Fastlane appears on the home screen and gives you a easy option if navigation directly to the apps from the home screen.
There are not many personalisation options in Nokia Asha 501 and you can only change the wallpaper and the sound profiles. You also get a notification bar at the top like the previous Asha Smartphones you can pull it down to see Sim status, change WiFi settings and much more.
The Nokia Asha comes with the preloaded Xpress Browser specially created for Asha Smartphones and the browsing experience with 501 one is really nice. You get some preloaded apps like Nokia Chat, Facebook, Twitter, News Hunt etc. and games, you get 40 free EA games which you can download using WiFi. You can also download many apps and my experience with apps and games of Nokia Asha 501 was awesome and I think couldn't get anything better at it's price.
Hardware-
The Nokia Asha 501 comes with a 1GHz processor and a Ram of 64 MB with that you get 128 MB of internal storage memory which can be expanded up to 32GB using micro Sd-card. The connectivity options are - WiFi, Bluetooth and Micro-USB cable. The device doesn't provides 3G services. All over the hardware specification were far too much than any other Smartphone at it's range.
There was no problem with video surfing on youtube though the video playing experience was limited as Nokia Asha 501 doesn't supprot MP4, MOV, MKV or AVI file formats. It was unable to play
720p (or higher) video either.
Camera-
The Nokia Asha 501 comes with a 3.2 Megapixels camera without auto-focus and flash options but gives the resolution of 2048x1536, 1600x1200,
1280x960 and 640x480 with the basic features of a camera like white balance, colour settings etc.
The camera took good pictures at daylight but at night/darkness the pictures became grainy and so I would say that this not a phone that can be used for photography, but like all other features of Nokia Asha 501 it's camera also gives a lot more features compared to all other Smartphones at Nokia Asha 501's price so Asha 501 rocks !!.
Price-
You have heard me telling through out the review about the Nokia Asha 501's Price and I am sure that you are anxious to know why I am praising it for its price so now the time has come to tell you the price of this Smartphone and it is.. Rs. 5,911 but you can get it for Rs. 4,599 !! at Indiatimes Shopping site or just click here to buy it at Indiatimes.
Advice-
After This whole review I have only one thing to say " Nokia Asha 501 Rocks !! " yea this rocks, but if you don't agree then give me a Smartphone which has more features than Asha 501 at Asha 501's price and I bet you that you will find none which can compete with Asha 501.
So I think that Nokia Asha 501 would be a good investment as you get lot more than what you spend.
Thanks For reading and guy's please comment if you have any queries.
